Moskowite Mastering Methods
Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. -
The third trimester of playing with tools and doing the best you can has been amazing. I have learned more about video editing then I ever thought that I would. The majority of the skills that we worked with in 703 such as google draw and info graphics are skills that I got to refresh. Since I was a New Tech High Grad in 2007 we had to complete two years of Digital Media in order to graduate. With the skills that I learned there on adobe photo shop and Microsoft Word,Excel, and PowerPoint I was able to translate my literacy to new tools as they have the same generic functions.
The hardest part of this class is not finishing 790. My research paper is not finished which makes it hard to complete a poster as well as the executive summary. The 701,702, and 703 classes were great reminders of knowing the content and being able to write papers or give presentations but being asked to use new and different tools. The TPACK process here was wonderful, the order of the classes would have been nice to not learn the tools at the same time as our research but to learn the tools and then the next semester use them to help our research.

This is a hard blog as my progress I feel as though I am walking up these stairs and the next step is not built until my life allows me to sit and not worry. As I have described in the past I have had mental health problems and this week brought back on the paralyzing panic attacks. Just as on these stair cases when there is no where to go you feel scared and trapped like there is nowhere and no one who can help. My Strength in life is making connections, finding patterns, and trying even when it feels as though all hope is lost. My time and energy have been replenished in the last two days by practicing more mindfulness in the morning and checking in with myself. These class homework times are the opposite of what my life allows. My husband works Wed-Saturday. Sundays are very often my homework day. This week I have made time with my husband and kids to take our days off together and have them leave the clean house so I can get work done. I am very confident on these assignments but have not put in the time in which I should have currently. When entering the program I thought I could do this and be successful. We are at the last week of the masters program and I have not finished my first class with my research, paper, and it has made the other two trimesters near impossible. I wish that there was an opportunity to take 790 and have the paper and research over two trimesters.
This program has reminded me how much I enjoy technology. I am thankful to be in a place of playing with tech and testing new things. I am excited to have a masters degree. I hope that I will finish all of my previous missing works by next week. to have a bit of a summer without attending classes. My research began by trying to meet students where they are in their learning. This includes making sure the student knows where they are and where they are going to be going . I feel that this is a life-long learning skill to know how to understand teaching from a teaching point of view. It puts the student in charge of there education by making it student-centered as well. When using proficiency scales students are able to figure out where they are on their path and what steps they need to fill the gaps. Being in front of the camera is not difficult. Earlier this year I was going through a hard time and felt that I had no one to talk to I then turned to making videos of me talking to help me cope and to hear my thoughts out loud. Research has shown that talking to yourself out loud can motivate you to move forward with your goals, help you focus on a task at hand, and combat self-criticism. -Martha Tesma
Blog: In the Reflect section of I-care 3 you were asked to begin reflecting on your TPACK journey by looking at
The development of my capstone to my understanding is the process of developing a driving question conducting research and writing a paper while developing final products such as a website, poster, and video documentary. The TPACK model before technology was first people started with content and what is important and why. Then the pedagogy of how should the content to be delivered. Technology was incorporated to maximize the understanding of content in a way that a teacher felt fit. My research was first wanting to help students to learn on their own how to learn. Through my own hardship of not meeting teacher expectations my pedagogical approach is to be transparent and more equal to students. For example , when you ask them what it means to study it is often answered review vocab and read your notes. In math studying means trying to do the same problem until you are able to successfully do it without help anymore and can explain why. This is a skill that is to be taught by example. A number of students in this age group have unreadable hand writing, as I did at that age, this means that practicing note taking in many forms to find which format works best for them. A number of students prefer an in class note taking method in order to stop and ask questions as they come up. There are students who prefer a prerecorded hand written style and others even more that can take notes on google slides to show progression that are good for studying. I found myself trying to help students map out the need for content but I as a teacher am able to provide a service of helping them discover which methods work best for them. The TPACK is an important way to diversify information and help make it more enjoyable therefore more retain able. I have struggled mostly with time and health. These are not exclusive issues that have been hard to my capstone but more of life in general. I managing my time by giving my self time when my kids are sleeping and my husband is home. Last week that never happened at the same time unless it was after 9:30. I am not sleeping well so I am trying not to stay up to late. When I sit down for those scheduled work times I often am not inspired or don't feel that the work is natural but forced. I am loving this semester of the master program. I finally feel like I am understanding what we are doing. However this week everything got harder because of house issues. I am also really stuck on my story for the documentary. I am not sure what I am talking about. Is it my journey or my research question. Next week will be a lot better as long as nothing else breaks in my house. Blog: Investigate your district’s mission statement and policies around technology and 21st century learning? What is it? It’s an all-encompassing or does it need a gentle nudge from you? Analyze and comment. Above is the mission for River Middle School. I love that we try and teach the 4R's and emphasize the whole person and not just the student who needs education. I believe that this is part of the 21st century learning.
Respect is known for it is alright to make choices for you but it is not alright to make choices for others. An example of that would be if Bobby was tapping his pencil in class but it was distracting another student. It is ok to make a choice for yourself but the other person doesn't have a choice. This falls into 21st century skills could be the right to privacy or posting on social media you may post it but others don't have a choice about what you post about them. Resourcefulness is a 21st century learning skill as when you get stuck you are looking for all the ways you can figure it out. For example if I am unsure of how to create a video on WeVideo I can ask a classmate, ask a colleague , google how to do it, look it up on youtube , and then ask the teacher instead of showing up to class saying I don't know. Responsibility is to be able to make an I statement and accept your part in things. This could be seen in netiquet (etiquette on the internet). If you are doing something online it is the same as doing it in person. If you take a persons photo from google and post it and not give credit that is stealing. My first draft of a logo is on the left. I tried to make something original using tools I was familiar with and realized i needed to get something on paper that has enough of my message in the image.
When I started this program and I was thinking of a problem in my class I found myself thinking I needed to give more usable feedback. There were a lot of names being used in the math and education field that included :
After the program is over I will still be trying to see which tool is best for students to self assesses and self teach. I am not sure if I would share my work or if I would just keep it to myself. |
